Your team has booked JCC or ICE BSD for the same annual conference of 1,000-plus attendees for years. This year someone's suggested moving to NICE PIK2 because it's "bigger." Before following that recommendation, there are a few things worth weighing first.

Jakarta's MICE venue supply is shifting fast

Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE) in PIK2 is now Indonesia's largest convention and exhibition venue by floor space, surpassing ICE BSD. It soft-opened in late August 2025, and since 2026 has already absorbed large-scale events that previously ran elsewhere, including the Hammersonic Festival and Java Jazz Festival, both of which relocated from Jakarta International Expo. Its phase-two development, underway through 2026, adds a 30,000-square-metre convention building and 47 meeting rooms.

What to weigh before switching venues

Location is the first consideration. NICE sits in the PIK2 area of Tangerang, roughly 32 kilometres from central Jakarta, not within Jakarta city itself, despite frequently being marketed as part of "Greater Jakarta." For protocol guests or international delegates who typically stay near the city centre, that distance is a real logistical factor, not a minor detail.

Access has a different character too. NICE connects via the Kamal-Teluknaga-Rajeg toll road toward Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which works well for delegates flying in directly, but less well for attendees based in Jakarta's CBD.

On scale, NICE offers 11 exhibition halls, with halls 1 through 8 connected without partitions. That suits exhibitions needing one continuous, very large space, something older venues can't always offer in a single hall.

Supporting accommodation is still the gap. Major hotels near NICE, such as Hilton Jakarta PIK2, aren't targeted for completion until mid-2027. Lodging options close to the venue remain limited compared to the established ecosystem around JCC or Senayan.

When NICE makes sense, and when the older venues still win

If your event needs one massive, undivided exhibition space, or your delegates have location flexibility because they're flying in directly, NICE's new supply genuinely opens options that didn't exist two years ago. But if your event carries heavy protocol requirements, most delegates are staying near the CBD, or you need a venue with a longer track record, an established central venue is still the safer call for now, at least until the accommodation ecosystem around NICE matures.
